Parameter Box tool

Use the Parameter Box tool to define parameter queries that do not generate counts, but which can be referenced by other query form items that do generate counts.

A single Parameter Box can contain multiple parameters of different types, including List of Values, Column Value, Yes or No Question, and Date Range.

Procedure

  1. Drag the tool from the tool box, or select it from the Create new drop-down.
  2. Enter a name for the Parameter which is unique within the current form. Note that where you are adding multiple items to a parameter box then these elements will be grouped together under a single name when referenced by the Use Parameter option. Where there is a requirement to differentiate between these elements, then each should be allocated to a separate Parameter Box. Visually, the end result will be the same on the final form.
  3. Select the resolution level of the box. Keep in mind that while individual elements may be drawn from different tables, the same resolution will be applied to the entire box. If you do not set the resolution of the box, it will not automatically inherit the resolution of the host query form.
  4. Drag and drop items into the box, or click and select a supported Query Form tool to embed in the box.

The example below illustrates a typical parameter box configuration:

The above configuration will be displayed on the query form as follows:

If you made selections and then ran the query then no counts would be produced as these are not standard query elements, but are designed to be referenced by query elements that do produce counts.
